How to convert FBX to STL
- Drop the
.fbxabove. - Check the size under the 3D view — characters are modelled at real scale, so a figure is often 1700–1900 mm tall.
- Untick parts you don't want, keep STL selected (tick One file per object for separate STLs) and download.
What changes
- The FBX unit setting is read and converted to millimetres; Y-up becomes Z-up so the model stands on the bed.
- All meshes are merged into one STL (or one per object), triangulated and welded.
- Rigged and animated models are taken in their bind (rest) pose — usually a T-pose or A-pose.
- Colours are dropped — STL has none. Use FBX to 3MF to keep material colours.
Game and character models are often not watertight (open eyes, separate clothing shells, thin hair cards). The slicer may need to repair them, and very thin parts may not print.
Frequently asked questions
My STL is huge in the slicer.
The model is at real size. Scale it down in the slicer — for a 90 mm figure from an 1800 mm character, scale to 5%.
Can I pose the character before converting?
No. The rest pose stored in the file is used; animations are not applied. Pose it in Blender or another 3D program first, then export a new FBX.
Can I convert FBX to STL without Blender?
Yes — that is what this page does, in the browser.
Is my model uploaded?
No. It never leaves your computer.
