How to convert FBX to OBJ
- Drop the
.fbxabove. - Keep OBJ selected and pick the up axis: Y up for Blender, Unity and other 3D tools, Z up for CAD and slicers.
- Click Download OBJ — you get a ZIP with the
.objand.mtl.
What is converted
- Geometry of every mesh, triangulated, with node transforms applied and duplicate vertices welded.
- Material base colours as MTL materials; a mesh with several materials keeps each colour on its own faces.
- Units: the FBX unit setting is read and the OBJ is written in millimetres (1 cm in the FBX = 10 units in the OBJ).
- Not converted: textures and UV coordinates, normals, bones, skin weights and animations. Rigged meshes are exported in their bind (rest) pose.
Frequently asked questions
My OBJ is ten times bigger than expected.
The OBJ is written in millimetres. If the program you import into assumes centimetres or metres, scale it on import (0.1 for centimetres, 0.001 for metres).
Are textures included?
No — texture images and UVs are not carried over. If you need a textured OBJ, export it from a 3D program such as Blender.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser.
